ikhlas.com opens Johor branch, sponsors 100 asnaf for umrah with RM150,000 in pocket money contributions from MAINJ
JOHOR BAHRU, 22 May 2026 - A total of 100 individuals across Johor have been identified as full sponsorship recipients under the Umrah 1000 Asnaf program by Ikhlas Com Travel & Umrah Sdn Bhd (ikhlas.com), providing an opportunity for those in need to set foot in the Holy Land.
In addition to the fully sponsored umrah packages by ikhlas.com, the selected asnaf group also received ‘pocket money’ contributions amounting to RM150,000, funded through zakat contributions managed by the Johor Islamic Religious Council (MAINJ).
The announcement was made in conjunction with the opening of ikhlas.com’s Johor branch office and the presentation of the Umrah 1000 Asnaf sponsorship at Masjid Ungku Tun Aminah, Kampung Pasir Tampoi. The event was attended by the Advisor of MAINJ, Datuk Dr. Nooh Gadot, and the Chief Executive Officer of MAINJ, Datuk Mohd Radzi Mohd Amin.
Chief Executive Officer of ikhlas.com, Ikhlas Kamarudin said: “We believe many still hold the dream of visiting the Holy Land but are held back by life’s constraints. Through our collaboration with MAINJ, we are able to ensure that this sponsorship reaches those who are truly eligible and in need, in line with the programme’s goal of expanding access to worship for the asnaf community.”
Behind the numbers are stories of hardship, such as that of Nur Laila Abd Rasib, 42, who supports three children while working as a cleaner since early this year, and shares the responsibility of caring for her elderly parents with her siblings.
“For years, I have prioritised my family. My dream is not only to visit the Holy Land, but also one day to help others who cannot afford it, so they too can have the chance to go to Makkah,” she said.
Another recipient, Azizah Wati Junit, 56, shared her journey as a single mother of five without a stable source of financial support.
Having previously worked as a security guard, cleaner, childcare provider and kuih seller with an income of around RM500 per month, Azizah now relies on zakat assistance to get by, while also facing health challenges due to high blood pressure.
“Even walking long distances is difficult for me, let alone thinking about going to the Holy Land. I never imagined I would receive this opportunity,” she said.
In addition to the sponsorship presentation, the program also featured a free umrah course for selected asnaf recipients and the local community, a lucky draw offering a complimentary umrah package and the distribution of 1,000 umrah discount vouchers worth RM200 each to attendees.
The Umrah 1000 Asnaf program was introduced last year in conjunction with ikhlas.com’s fifth anniversary, with the aim of helping underprivileged communities perform umrah through full sponsorship.
