From actor to nasi berlauk seller, Taiyuddin Bakar set for umrah

KUALA LUMPUR, 06 Oct 2026 - Once known for his role in the action-comedy film Apa Celop Toqq…, Taiyuddin Bakar, who now earns a living selling nasi berlauk, is set to embark on his journey to the Holy Land through the Tabung Infak Umrah Surau Al-Barakah Menara Kembar Bank Rakyat, in collaboration with Ikhlas Com Travel Sdn Bhd (ikhlas.com).
The ikhlas.com production crew initially planned to conduct a social experiment by posing as vendors selling goods to Taiyuddin, who is widely recognised for his popular catchphrase “Apa Celop Toq.”
What began as a social experiment soon became a meaningful surprise when Taiyuddin learned that he had been selected as one of five recipients of an umrah under the Tabung Infak Umrah Surau Al-Barakah Menara Kembar Bank Rakyat.
The selection of 43-year-old Taiyuddin is part of ikhlas.com’s efforts to identify suitable candidates to benefit from the initiative.
Sharing his life journey, Taiyuddin said that he and his wife, Norzazila Zulkafli, 43, have faced various challenges in building their life together before deciding to start their nasi berlauk business through a car boot sale.
“We have both gone through many challenges. My wife is good at crocheting the kopiah. So, this is where we started our business. From the proceeds of the sales, my wife and I started this nasi berlauk business, and my wife chose to run the business from the car.
“Alhamdulillah, Allahu Akbar, Ya Allah, I am coming. I miss Rasulullah,” said Taiyuddin.
According to Taiyuddin, their nasi berlauk business around the Klang Valley has become one of their main sources of income to support the family, while also allowing them to offer affordable food to customers.
Taiyuddin and four other pilgrims under the Tabung Infak Umrah Surau Al-Barakah Menara Kembar Bank Rakyat, will perform umrah for 9 days and 7 nights together with 10 Umrah 1000 Asnaf pilgrims fully sponsored by ikhlas.com, departing from 19 to 26 October 2026.
